The study investigated the effects of bamboo shoot consumption on the health of young women and found that it resulted in improved cholesterol levels, including lower total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. However, there were no changes in blood sugar levels. Additionally, the women experienced increased bowel movements and fecal volume when consuming bamboo shoots.
